The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer’s

The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer’s(2004) This is a story of the profound impact of Alzheimer’s on individuals, families and the looming public health crisis facing America as the baby-boomers move into their senior years. Using clear animated graphics and visual montage sequences, The Forgetting offers a clear understanding of the Alzheimer’s disease process then goes on to explore the dramatic medical and scientific search for a cure. The doctors and scientists here are clearly on an urgent mission, and the portrayal of their quest is vivid and interesting. Expert interviews and scientific information are skillfully interwoven with the unfolding stories of three families, each dealing with different aspects and manifestations of the disease. The emotional dimension of their experience is captured in many intimate moments. This 90-minute documentary, packaged on DVD with a companion “town meeting”and other extras, is a thoroughly engaging and informative piece of work.
