Wealth & Power (2000)
Wealth & Power (2000) This ambitious A&E Video has an initial volume on tyrants, plunderers and building a modern world that is a useful review of key world history high (or low) points. Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Napoleon and other conquerors appear briefly. Then a balanced summary of Jacob Astor’s, Cornelius Vanderbilt’s, John D. Rockefeller’s, and J. P. Morgan’s accomplishments and downsides is objectively presented. Morgan died with only $50-60 million, which prompted J. D. Rockefeller’s comment: “And I thought that he was rich.” The second video focuses on ‘creators,’ not inventors. Henry Ford, General Sarnoff (for radio and television), Ted Turner (for CNN and a 24-hour news channel), and Bill Gates are featured.
