What Happened to Bill Clinton?(1994)

Just after the Republicans captured both the House and the Senate in the 1994 Congressional elections, various Washington-based "talking heads", including keen political analyst Elizabeth Drew, were filmed in this assessment of President Clinton’s apparent political demise.

These pundits seemed bright and well-informed. Their over-all conclusion was that Clinton was a likely loser in 1996. In retrospect, it is instructive to see how wrong political experts can be. Clinton, by adopting a number of Republican positions and benefiting from Newt Gingrich’s excesses, was able to trounce a weak Republican candidate, Senator Bob Dole, in 1996.

This documentary should be viewed in conjunction with The Clinton Years (2001), which focuses on the 'two Clintons': the one who would go into tailspins (reference to awaiting the 'incoming' shells), and the 'Comeback Kid,' who was extremely skilled in surviving. Perhaps, in 1994, the pundits underestimated Clinton and overestimated his Republican adversaries.
