New York: A Documentary Film
New York: A Documentary Film(1999) Astonishingly fine epic PBS film that captures the soul of a city and the emergence of America in an extraordinarily compelling manner. Whether the focus is on Alexander Hamilton, Walt Whitman, or the changing city architecture and skyline, Ric Burns, in his 10-hour video (another 4 hours were subsequently released), magically captures our evolution from the Dutch to the global world. Ric should no longer be called Ken’s younger brother. The Knopf companion book, New York, is a suitable supplement.
