Research Interests
I am interested in the fate and speciation of trace metals in the environment. I work
primarily with Copper, Lead, and Cadmium. The metals are determined using Flame Atomic
Absorption and electrochemical techniques. I collaborate with Drs. Dorothy Parker and Robert
Wise of the Biology/Microbiology Department, and Dr. Jennifer Mihalick of the Chemistry
Department. Current work involves metal association and competition studies with a
polysaccharide isolated from a cyanobacterium common to alkaline lakes.
Microcystis produces an abundace of this polysaccharide which exhibits unusal
affinity for trace metals.
