Debate questions went unanswered
Note: The following letter appeared in the October 13, 2002 Oshkosh Northwestern.
To the Editor:
In the recent debate State Rep. Gregg Underheim, R-Oshkosh, repeatedly and fairly asked the question to Democratic challenger James Genisio, Where do you stand Mr. Genisio?
Genisio was all blame and no answers. This race should be about specific answers to specific questions.
Genisio refused to give answers on questions about controlling local government spending, state government spending, state employee reductions, and requiring a two-thirds vote in the legislature to raise taxes.
On top of that, Underheim offered specific proposals to solve the budget problem. He favored zero based budgeting, a rainy day fund, the end to credit card spending, and controls on state government spending.
Why wont Genisio answer questions that are pertinent to the race? Underheim was right. Where do you stand, Mr. Genisio?
Tom Allen, Oshkosh
