Another Response To Falk Essay

August 13, 2001

Hi Tony,

What's your track record on political predictions? If you think Falk will win, you're probably still betting on Gore to win the 2000 recount!

I think the probability of this Falk scenario occurring is less than 10%. Barrett is going to win this thing by 10% over Doyle - maybe more. And he'll take the acting guv in the general by 55% to 45%. He's smart. He'll avoid the Moody and Checota trap. He's got a lot of Tommy Thompson-like traits -- good sense of humor, loves Wisconsin, can talk straight (in a kind of folksy way to blue collar), is decent looking, is strong with Blacks, unions, and women and has no skeletons (his position on the Clinton impeachment on Judiciary Committee will be a strong asset). He's got a ton of money, a platform to stake positions nationally (i.e. promoting Madison as the site of the Center for Stem Cell Research), and he's only lost one election in his entire life (and that was by less than 1%).

You must be related to Kathleen or else you are out of touch with Barrett and Doyle. I think you've been in the sun too long! If you wrote this tongue in cheek -- my apologies!
