Oshkosh Peace Rally: October 4, 2002

A rally in support of peace was held in Oshkosh on October 4, 2002 (a windy, cold, and blustery day that was made much warmer by the spirit of the rally participants) starting at 4 p.m. in the new downtown Opera House Square Park. Around 100 people of varying ages participated at some point. At around 5:30, the rallyers marched about a half-mile to the restored Fire House on New York Ave., the site at which US Senator Russ Feingold was scheduled to appear at 6 p.m. to endorse State Assembly District 54 candidate James Genisio. Feingold did show up and was met by a throng of protesters urging him to vote NO on the Bush Administration's Iraq resolution. Once inside the Fire House, Feingold assured the crowd that he would vote no based on the information he currently has. He said "the Administration has not made the case for war and I don't think they can."
