D.A. Joe Paulus Investigated by FBI, Sources Say
Reliable sources tell Action 2 News the FBI is investigating Winnebago County District Attorney Joe Paulus. The FBI refuses to confirm that.
According to our sources, the investigation centers on a 1999 drunk driving case where a woman paid a large sum of money to have her case dismissed.
Persons close to the situation say there are other similar cases also being investigated.
Paulus told Action 2 News he has no knowledge of any investigation. He says the whole thing is a smear campaign by his political opponents.
Paulus is facing opposition for the district attorney's job by members of his own staff.
