A police officer is refusing to resign from the Winnebago County district
attorney's office. D.A. Joe Paulus requested Officer Jim Curtis's
resignation Tuesday as Paulus fired two prosecutors in his office (see
related story).
Curtis told Action 2 News when he refused to resign, Paulus said he
would ask the police chief to remove him from the office. Wednesday,
the Oshkosh police chief said he fully supports Curtis's decision.
"I talked to [Curtis] briefly early this morning and he said he's going to
continue as he always has, and that was my encouragement to him,
just do the best job you can and continue with your work as you have in
the past," Chief Dave Erickson said.
Chief Erickson said he has total confidence Curtis can work above the
fray currently surrounding the D.A.'s office.
