Bloechl: Shame On The Little Men

June 25, 2002

Hello Tony,

As the "Mayor" that appointed Cheryl Hentz, I feel that it is important for all concerned to understand how I handled my appointment process.

First, I would review applications that were forwarded to me via the City Manager's office. Many applicants were interested in more than one committee, so I would try to look for new people, people that haven't had an opportunity to serve before, people that aren't "connected" to the "establishment", people that weren't "yes" people.

I have had the honor of knowing Cheryl Hentz for nearly a decade, both as a journalist, and a friend. When her application came before me, I did as I always do, interviewed and questioned her varying interests.

As you and your other web site readers can now very easily see, Ms. Hentz is extremely thorough, intellegent and not intimidated, when it comes to making important decisions with regard to her community. I also believe that she has shown tremendous commitment to the commissions on which she serves.

Shame on the little men who hide in the dark, dingy corners of the editorial board office.

If anyone out there ever wonders why good people like Cheryl Hentz and so many others like her don't get involved in the community, you need look NO further than the editorial pages of the Oshkosh Northwestern.

This has done a grave disservice to the good people of Oshkosh, that have been willing to give of their time and talents to many committees, at no charge to the city. These good people deserve our respect and appreciation, NOT DISRESPECT AND DISDAIN!

Shame on the little men who hide in the dark, dingy corners of the editorial board office.

I have a suggestion to all of you little people, TURN ON A LIGHT and OPEN A WINDOW..it's your only hope of getting a new, and clearer perspective on who and what the real OSHKOSH is made of.

My Sincerest appreciation and respect to all persons that give to this Great City.

Melanie Bloechl
