Jamie Vesperman: Thanks Stew!

Note: Jamie Vesperman submitted the following letter to the Oshkosh Northwestern on October 8, 2002 and sent a copy to Commentary.

Dear Editor:

I wanted to thank you for effectively shutting off Oshkosh Community Access 10 in your column and a voters right to choose.

I can see saying it was not lively, or the candidate was a boob but effectively shutting off viewers to Channel 10's reruns is appalling. Why run them, we didn't want you to see the alternatives anyway, in fact be a good little boy and put your blinders on, "Remember, his name is Underheim".

In the three years on Alert To Action debates, we never stood in front of the camera and said "See This Guy Over Here, Yeah, You Should Ignore Him, He Is A Fool." Many times me and my coworkers on the show would cringe at newcomers or
scowl at stupidity but that is why debates are held so the folks in the audience can make an informed decision by themselves.

I believe it is time that self important pompous journalists, not you of course, learn that you do not control what can and cannot happen. Jesse Ventura had pompous journalists say he should not be seen as well, "ohh, Shoot, Look He's Governor."

I believe the Nazi tendency to censor has arrived and it is when we kill speech that we kill ourselves as journalists. Thanks Stew!

I believe, that before we start taking stances on issues, you Stew Rieckman needs to explain your party affilliations, as your collumn acted as a friend of Mr. Genisio. Huh?

Sincerely,
Jamie Vesperman
