Hunger Awareness Dinner

On September 23, 2002 UW Oshkosh sponsored an Oxfam Hunger Awareness Dinner as part of the Earth Charter Community Summit. Dr. Deborah Toler was the dinner keynote speaker. At an Hunger Awareness Dinner, participants are given unequal distributions of food; a small number receive a typical middle-class American meal while the majority are served little more than rice and water. Participants do not know when they arrive what type of meal they will receive. The event was organized by UW Oshkosh Lutheran Student Movement Director Kathryn Schreitmueller and Professor Greg Olsen of the UW Oshkosh Sociology Department. In the photo below, student Casey Brandt (with microphone) reads the testimony of a person in the real world experiencing hunger.
