Harmon Seaver on Lee Baxandall's Letter

Re: Lee Baxandall's letter

August, 2002

It would be extremely interesting to see a truly objective report on the
EAA, including exactly what it costs the city in terms of LE, street stuff
including signs, etc., additional buses, i.e., the whole ball of wax, costs and
benefits.

And then also let's factor in the noise -- why should we have to put up with
all the noise of those planes, especially the warbirds? Or the traffic -- what
benefit is it to the citizens of Oshkosh for the really heavy burden of EAA? So
some of the businesses get a few extra bucks and so a few people rent some rooms
(which we used to do but after the turkeys who showed up last year and ripped us
off, we'd never do again) -- what real plus is there for us to put up with the
whole mess? I'm willing to bet it's a negative when all is said and done.

As far as noise is concerned -- why is Oshkosh the noisiest city in the
state, bar none? Why is there absolutely no enforcement of state muffler laws
here? I'm thinking of going around and taking pictures of all the bikes running
no mufflers here -- total straight pipes, along with their license plate, and
putting them up on a website. Why does the city host things like Riverfest and
Country USA with absolutely no regard for the citizens living around those
abominations? Is that why EAA decided to come here, because Oshkosh is such a
disgusting noisy horrorshow anyway?
