Commentary Investigation Smacks of Fascism

by Jon Frings

I recieved your e-mail regarding the investigation of Commentary. Such a thing smacks of fascism which frankly does not surprise me coming from the right such as it is.

It should be obvious to nearly everyone by now that the right wing is determined like never before in American history to have complete control over our system. Their obvious intent is to forcefeed their conservative values and views on everyone and the methods they employ to bring about such a sea change exclude practically nothing.

The mudslinging in the Governors race is only one example. It leads me to conclude that indeed America has lost it's way. While we preach to the rest of the world about our intolerance for demagogues like Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, demogoguery is reaching new crescendo's here at home.

Our government is divided nearly down the middle and there is in fact an unspoken war being fought here in the U.S. A war for control of the system by competing ideologys and it appears, in my opinion, that the side with the most money will win and that side is of course the right wing.

It comes as a revelation to no one that our government is no longer a representative government, but rather a government operated by corporations and their pet interests. To assume that either Democrats or Republicans truly care about the masses is delusion, particularly after the last two decades.

I caught the gubernatorial debate on PBS and frankly regarding the candidates it reminds one of the last presidential election. Lousy choices in every direction. The only candidate who made any relevant comments regarding the state of our society was Jim Young when he attempted to expound on what he thought were some of the factors in our problems. He mentioned somewhat the same point I am now making. Corporations have overrun our government, our society and yes even our personal lives. One can expect this to continue on into the future given the vast resources they can muster. That is unless and until Americans decide in droves they have had enough and demand their country back along with most of the freedoms they use to enjoy. We're willing to fight a war somewhere else, are we willing to fight for our freedom here at home or are we too comfortable with all the
corporate conspiracy has to promise us if we just go along with it all?

On a related note I once again would like to comment on WTMJ radio Fourth Reich and their fearless fuhrer Charlie Sykes. The man has no business calling himself a radio journalist. He only entertains comments from call ins that agree with his extremist right wing views. When ever a caller whose views are contrary to his manages to get on the air he rarely lets them complete their comments. At one time in the past when networks made the claim of being "professional journalists" they held to a code of
objectivity and only rarely interjected their views and certainly not nearly as rabidly as individuals like Sykes. One suspects he is a paid crony of the Republican party nearly always defending the moneyed interests.

The sad truth is that in all liklihood no matter who wins the elections coming up next week things will continue on the path they have been going for a very long time. Money talks loudest in everycase and the moneyed, corporate interests make sure they cover all the bases on either side so they never really are rooted out from their positions of undue influence. Much like a parasitic virus that learns to adapt to a variety of threats, our system has been co-opted by that kind of virus.

Finally I would commment on the Genisio, Underheim contest. Of course Genisio would be a better man in that position than what we now have, but will money win out once again? From all indications Mr. Genisio is a fine and honorable man and would do us all proud to serve in that office. The best we can hope for is that people in the area are not as gullible as usual and for once take a chance on someone other than one of the "gold old boys" who have held sway over this area for generations.
