Commentary Update for August 23, 2001: Best Of, Dumbing Down Downtown Discussion, Sundial Socialist?

Dear Commentarians:

This week's Commentary features "best of" clips from the last year, including Jungwirth calling for Dell'Antonia to resign, Van De Hey and Maehl talking about sales taxes, and LuAnn Bird talking about her treatment at the hands of the Northwestern. A more complete description of the program is here:

Did anyone get a chance to read Jim Fitzhenry's column regarding downtown a few weeks ago? I think Mr. Fitzhenry has done lots of good things for the editorial page, but I think on downtown he is dumbing down the discussion:

Friday morning Mather, Freshner and I are off to Milwaukee to interview former Mayor Frank Zeidler for Commentary. I believe Mr. Zeidler and others like him were called "sewer socialists" at one time. Would it be a "sundial socialist" in Sawdust City? (:-).

Keep talking. You know the Silent Six won't.
