Commentary Update for August 1, 2001: Doc Snyder, Ellis, Sounds of Silence

Robert L. "Doc" Snyder, emeritus professor of Radio-TV-Film at UW Oshkosh and founder of the campus' RTVF program, will be the guest on this week's "Commentary." Snyder, who was recently inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcaster's Hall of Fame (only the second educator ever to be so named), is also an internationally recognized expert on jazz music. We discuss jazz, broadcasting, and a host of other issues.

Also, we have two very exciting shows coming up. Next week, Wisconsin State Senator Mile Ellis (Republican-Neenah) will join us. Those of you who know Mike will agree that he is one of the most outspoken members of the legislature. We are looking forward to asking him why he voted against the recent state budget. The week after, we interview Mike McCabe, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign has done more than any other organization to put the issue of campaign finance reform on the map in Wisconsin.

Finally, in the satire category, Simon and Garfunkel have redone their classic "Sounds of Silence" in honor of the Silent Six on the Oshkosh Common Council:

(note: this will only make sense to those of you who follow Oshkosh politics closely).
