Commentary Update for April 15, 2002: Barrett, Incorrect Correction, Jania Aubakirova,

Friends,

US Congressman and 2002 gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett (Democrat-Milwaukee) is the guest on this week's Commentary. Barrett was only available in late March while our student staff was on spring break, so Doug Freshner was good enough to tape the interview for us at that time. We had to wait until now to show it because other candidates were already scheduled to be on in the weeks immediately following our taping of the Barrett interview. If you get a chance to see it, you'll notice that we do not ask him about the Democrats' plan to solve the budget crisis because such a plan had not been released at that point. Here's a picture from the taping: http://www.uwosh.edu/faculty_staff/palmeri/barrettpic.jpg

In other news, those of you who read the Oshkosh Northwestern may have noticed this past Saturday that a tiny correction of a story about Winnebago County's "pay for performance" plan appeared. I ended up writing a little piece about that correction and another correction dealing with the school board:

UW Oshkosh is fortunate this week to have on campus Professor Jania Aubakirova, an internationally acclaimed pianist and Director of the National Conservatory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On Tuesday evening (April 16th) she will be performing a solo recital at the UW Oshkosh Music Hall at 8 p.m.

Late last week Professor Dmitri Novgorodsky of the UW Oshkosh Department of Music asked me if I would interview Jania. I spoke to her for a half-hour as part of Doug Freshner's "University" program. Since she does not speak or understand much English, Dmitri appears on the show as a translator. A fascinating experience. The interview will be shown at 6:30 (right before Commentary) beginning on Tuesday the 16th and continuing for the rest of the week.
Best,

-Tony
