Commentary Update for October 17, 2001: Hagen/Hazell, Lemmer FOCUS

"Commentary" this week features the first of 3 programs dealing with "Human Services" issues. In this week's show, Dr. Janet Hagen (Chair of the Human Services and Professional Leadership Program at UW Oshkosh) and Human Service practitioner Vivian Hazell discuss a variety of issues related to the field. Vivian had a coughing fit early in the taping (we could not stop the taping and start over again because of studio time constraints) and actually left the panel, but she comes back in the second half of the program and does a fine job.

This Friday Jim and I will interview Lou O'Malley (director of the Crossroads Homeless Advocacy program in Green Bay) and Scott Snyder of the Red Cross.

On the web site is a letter I've received from Jim Lemmer, Chair of "For Our Children United we Stand (FOCUS)", a group working for passage of the November 6 referendum:

I would love to put other pro and con letters about the referendum on the site. It might be especially interesting if someone out there writes a rebuttal to Mr. Lemmer that they might don't mind placing on the site.

Also, School Board member Theresa Thiel has volunteered to take me on a tour of the schools. I may take her up on that invitation if I can find a way to get out of all these darn meetings and other responsibilities at that university! I'm sure Theresa would be more than willing to extend the same offer to others. Perhaps a group of us could take the tour? Please e-mail me if you are interested in such a thing. Theresa's e-mail address is tmthiel@go.com
