Diversity Issues in Journalism > News Judgment
| One of the most critical roles of an editor is selecting the news that will appear in a publication. An almost equally important role is ensuring that news reports have been prepared in a way that leads to the highest level of accuracy. Below are links to 10 stories, based on actual news accounts, that may or may not reflect an adequate effort to include perspectives from a broad range of news sources. Read them over as if you were a copy editor responsible for their publication. Pay particular attention to the number and range of sources used. The articles are presented in pairs. The one on the left is the original version of the article. The one on the right has questions inserted about some of the sources. Mouse over the words and phrases in bold to see what kinds of questions an editor might want to raise.
