Peru -- the Summer 2006 trip...
In June 2006, Economics Professor Ralph Gunderson and
Spanish Professor Isabel Alvarez and 22 UWO students headed for Peru to
study Enviornmental Issues of Economic Development and Business
Spanish. We had a GREAT time!
We spent two weeks having class in Lima, visiting markets, factories,
and businesses.
We studied and had
lectures at the Universidad del Pacifico.
We visited
development projects in Lima and dune buggied and sandboarded in Ica.
and
We also visited an organic
Pisco winery. Then, one weekend, we
headed for Inquitos, a town located in the Amazon Basin and
rainforest. From Inquitos, we traveled by boat to our rainforest
lodge.
and saw our
home-away-from-home
We visited local indigineous peoples, and saw lots of animals.
Check out Peter's little friend.
and
And meet Mr. Pokey.
After the rainforest, we headed back to Lima for a few more classes,
before going on our grand tour of Peru. We started out in Puno,
on Lake Titicaca at 13,000 feet, high in the Andes Mountains.

Then we headed to Cusco, capital of the Incas. Boy was that a
change from Lima!!
and
We saw a lot of sights around Cusco, and then headed out to hike the
Inca Trail. It is not all up hill, but those are the cool
pictures!
We got to Machu Picchu, and the weather and views were spectacular!

Too bad we had to
go home!
