Examples of Acts of Misconduct and Corresponding Penalty

 

I.             IN-CLASS EXAMS AND EXAMS IN TESTING CENTER

 

Type of Misconduct

Penalty

1.   Student leaving during an exam.

1. Termination of exam. Exam to be graded in condition when collected.

 

2.   Students talking to each other during an exam.

2. Instructor collects exams. Exams to be graded in condition when collected.

 

3a. Students having cell phones, computers, calculators, PDAs, and other electronic devices in plain view during an exam unless expressly permitted to do so in advance by the instructor.

 

3b. Students using cell phones, computers, calculators, PDAs, and other electronic devices to communicate messages to others during an exam.

3a. Penalty as severe as a 0 on the exam.

 

 

 

 

 

 

3b. Failure in course.

4.   Students unauthorized use of cheat sheets or any other material with notes on them (assuming that an exam/quiz is not an open-book type).

4. Failure in course.

5.   Students stealing a copy of an exam or any portion of the exam for another student in the same or a different section of a class.

5. Failure in course. Admission to COBA revoked.

 

 

6.   Removing a copy of an exam or any portion of the exam from the classroom or testing center without the consent of the instructor.

IV. TERM PAPERS

1.   Submitting a paper without properly referencing or attributing ideas.

1. 0 on term paper/project.

 

2.   Submitting a paper from another class or from another student.

1.   Student claiming credit for attendance at an event when the student did not attend the event.
