Geology 102 Field Trip:

Saturday October 15, 2011: Meet at 8:15 AM return by 12:30 PM.

OR

Saturday October 15, 2011: Meet at 12:45 PM return by 5:00 PM.

* Sign up sheets for the trips are on the door to our lab (Harrington Hall 113).
** We will meet on Algoma Blvd. near Dempsey Hall -- look for the yellow bus.
*** Bring a pencil or pen, a jacket, "sensible" shoes (we are doing a hike of about one mile), a water bottle, and a clipboard can be useful.
**** Watch the weather-- and wear appropriate clothing! Cool partially cloudy weather is predicted.

 

If you cannot (or choose not to) go on the trip, you must complete the following web-based questions in your lab manual by the deadlines below:

1. Answer the questions at the end of chapter 13: Relative Age... pages 256-257 (WWW-box) in the lab manual.

Dr. Deering's (AM lecture) can turn in the assignment using the Dropbox on D2L. Dr. Hiatt's (PM lecture) students use a sheet of your own paper (be sure to include your name, student I.D. and laboratory time and hand it in to your laboratory instructor). These are due by your lab meeting time during the week of November 7 (final lab meets on November 11).
 

2. Answer the questions at the end of chapter 9: Groundwater, page 180 (WWW-box) in the lab manual. See update below**

  1. Go to http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/nwisman/?site_no=432415088552601&agency_cd=USGS
  2. This is a summary for an actively monitored well in Dodge Co, Wisconsin.
  3. To find the current depth to the water table (question d), choose "Time-series: Real-time data" under "Available data for this site".
