Honors Interdisciplinary Seminar ( IDS 175)TRUTHPlato Topics |
"I AM THATI AM" |
These are only suggestions. Propose your own focus. It's only important that you do have a focus and one that can be substantiated and illustrated with textual evidence
What is Plato’s attitude toward change? How does this relate to, among other things, his characterization of the human mind (see the Divided Line)?
Why does Plato argue that the Philosopher-Ruler should govern the Ideal State? What characteristics will he or she have? What makes him or her best suited to govern? How will he or she be trained?
What are Plato’s attitudes toward art, literature, and language (to the degree we see them here)?
In each case, you will need to demonstrate command of what Plato argues before you can begin to offer your analysis, interpretation, and perhaps critique of his ideas.
