Mid-Term Essay

You will write 1 full-length, formal, research-based analytic essay. The Mid-Term Essay (15%) will analyze some aspect of Spiegelman's Maus, using outside scholarly sources to support and enhance your analysis of the two-volume memoir. You will write a complete draft of this essay, worth 20% of the final MT Essay grade. The peer editing of the drafts will be worth 10 formal assignment points. Please click on the following link for detailed guidelines.

Projects

Over the final six weeks of the course, you will undertake two major projects. The Group Project (15%) will involve a group presentation on any genocidal conflict or issue that we do not cover in class. The Final Project (20%) will be a research project, utilizing outside sources, in which you explore another such ethnic, religious, or racial conflict (it need not be formally "genocide"): its history, available academic and primary sources, and its ongoing significance or status. As with the Mid-Term Essay, the Final Project will involve drafting and peer editing (both of which will be assessed). Please see the links for specific guidelines for each project.

Remember to review the Plagiarism Policies and Procedures, as discussed in class.
