Students strive every year to become independent readers. Our third graders are encouraged to select a wide variety of reading materials within their comfort and interest levels to read in school, as well as out of school. In class we focus on various reading strategies to help improve reading ability, and upon how important it is to read EVERY DAY!!

This year in language arts our third graders review and practice old fundamentals of grammar while learning and using new ones. It is ia building process during which the students apply correct grammar uses in their oral and written expressions in ALL subject areas.

Along the way we improve our sentence structure, parts of speech knowledge, paragraph writing and process writing. The Six Traits guide our students along as they analyze their own stories, becoming more aware and adept with spelling and the mechanics of language.

Map and globe skills make up a large majority of the third grade social studies curriculum. In addition we study people, places and environments and how they change or have remained the same over time. Influences such as citizenship, government, economics and behaviors are identified and examined.

Learning connections are made in all themes explored to show how to identify information, make relationships, recognize changes and realize the impacts technology and people have upon each other. Third graders are encouraged to put their new knowledge into perspective, too, applied to their everyday lives.
