The students in my second/third grade classroom are taught reading by literature circles and Harcourt Brace Reading series. They read books at their reading level in small groups and are assigned individual writing assignments. |

The students do daily journal writing and weekly writing lessons throughout the year. Students are also assigned jobs during literature circles which encourage writing and oral language. Our spelling lessons follow the Harcourt Brace Basil series. |

The students are taught mathematics through Chicago Math. Some of the units that are taught include: Place Value, Time, Money, Measurement, Geometry, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and Decimals. |

Social studies is taught in units. Units include Pioneer Life, Native American Tribes, Map Skills, Building Relationship with Other Countries, and Communities. |

The students in my classroom are taught science in units. Some of the units are taught through the use of "Carolina Science Kits." The units include: Weather, Space, Plants, Insects, Light and Sound, Matter, and Motion. |

The students have pen pals in Michigan. We write to our pen pals once a month and make special projects for them on holidays. |
