The music concepts of melody, rhythm, reading notes while performing through singing and playing musical instruments are taught in grades K-5. In addition, students listen to and analyze the music of master composers, plus use and learn various musical terms. Kindergarten students use mainly piano keyboards to learn their music concepts. This is a special program using a method developed by Dr. Frances Raucher. Special education music not only incorporates some of the musical concepts but other concepts such as language, range of motion, movement, appreciation of music, being able to listen and follow directions, attention span, getting a response and learning to behave appropriately. The integration of special education students into regular classes is done when it is appropriate.
