Communication skills are taught through a variety of techniques and are based on the individual needs of the child.

Some children communicate verbally while others communicate with signs or pictures. Communication skills are practiced through all activities of the school day. This makes language meaningful to the students.

Children playing with toys

Play is the most important part of our day. During play, children learn life's important skills of communicating, sharing, and problem solving. While children play, the EC staff encourage use of language, creativity, expression of thoughts and feelings and making choices.

Children in the Early Childhood program are encouraged to be independent in dressing, eating, and toileting skills.

Therefore, it is our goal that children will zip their own coats, clean up their own snack area, wash their own hands, and button their own buttons. Parents are encouraged to expect the same at home.
