ART PHILOSOPHY / GENERAL OUTLINE |
Art is a fundamental part of human existence. It is a visual language that is universal for all people. The making of art is the expression of an individual's historical, cultural and emotional observations and perceptions. Art experiences are necessary for establishing balanced whole-brain growth and the development of all children. Visual problems and concepts are sequentially and purposerfully introduced to foster perceptual awareness, develop creative ability, instill a sense of aesthetic awareness, promote communication skills and exercise an understanding and respect of others through enrichment of the self. Children's art educational experiences will give them exposure in the following media (Grades: Special Education and K-5): Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking, Design, Collage and Fibers.
Students are expected to bring such supplies as paint shirts, crayons, glue, scissors, pencils and erasers. All other supplies are provided by the school (e.g., paint, clay, yarn, etc.). The art instructor meets with each class (kindergarten, special education, grades 1-5) once a week for 50 minutes.
