Individual Consultations

ES 490: Senior Seminar

The individual consultations are designed to assist your research and writing. There really isn’t a standard format because the consultations are individualized to each student’s specific needs at the particular stage they are in.

Students should be prepared to:

> give a very brief & efficient summary of your topic and the key issues you are exploring.
> give a very brief summary of where you are in your research and writing (need a lot more research? starting to write a section?).
> have specific substantial questions about your project. I say “substantial” because we should not use this time to discuss minor issues such as citation style.

Keep in mind that we have reference librarians in Polk Library who are experts in finding research sources and eager to share their knowledge and skills. Especially given how broadly spread the topics of this course are, the librarians often know much more than I about where to find information.

The consultations are 20 minutes long. We need to keep strictly to that time frame so students who come later are not robbed of their time. If you are late, we will still need to finish when the 20 minute time slot is finished.
