ASSIGNMENT

Bioregional analysis of an ecologically significant site in Wisconsin

Assignment

The student in consultation with the instructor will choose one ecologically significant location in Wisconsin and complete a bioregional analysis using the assignment template.

Visiting the site

Students are expected to go visit the location. This will enable the student to pick up information on site (if any) and experience the location first-hand.

If at all possible, the student should take digital photographs of the location, which will be sent to the instructor as an email attachment and placed on the web in the public domain. If this aspect of the assignment is impossible, notify the instructor right away.

Learning objectives

The primary learning objective is to gain experience in bioregional analysis of particular locations. This helps make bioregional knowledge concrete by applying it to a specific site.

More specifically it involves finding out relevant information about the site concerning bioregion, watershed, natural communities, biome, flora, fauna, physical geography, geology, and cultural history.

Another objective is the ability to publish this information in a clear and efficient way for the general public.

Format

The final product should be around 4 pages. Typed, double-spaced, one-inch margins, Times New Roman 12 point.

See template and example (although the example does not include cultural history).
