ES 375: Ecosocial Advocacy

ANALYZING FILMS ABOUT ECOSOCIAL ACTIVISM

Each student will write a review of one film (or possibly two related short ones). The review will become part of the “Ecosocial Activism Project” that will be put up on the internet. The review should be one-and-a-half to two pages (double-spaced, one-inch margins, Times New Roman font, printed on two sides). It should BRIEFLY review the content of the film (a short paragraph). More importantly, it should critically analyze the activism involved, evaluating the values, tactics, and impact of the activism. As you watch the film and consider your analysis, keep in mind the dimensions outlined in “Dimensions in the analysis of case studies.” There are far more dimensions than you will be able to consider, but keep them in mind and determine which are most relevant to this assignment.

The chief criteria for grading this assignment are:

  • Clear and efficient summary of the content of the film
  • Probing critical analysis focusing on the activism portrayed
    • efficiently summarize the tactics
    • evaluate the values and the tactics and the relationship between them
    • evaluate the relative success and failure the activism
    • consider several of the “dimensions in the analysis of case studies”
  • Clarity and vigor of the writing.
  • Proper grammar, spelling, etc., and page length
