ES 243: Introduction to Nature Writing
Only part of your education comes from your classes. Universities such as UWO have many opportunities to gain knowledge and cultural enrichment outside the classroom. When students complement their in-class education with co-curricular activities, the experiences reinforce each other. For that reason, I ask students in all of my classes to attend and respond to co-curricular events. For ES 243, students must attend two events related to the environment (in particular, the events of Earth Charter Community Summit) or literature. (Check the syllabus for the due date.) For each response you should give a brief (a few sentences) synopsis of the event. Then comment on the event: The response is informal – I don’t expect the depth of probing that is involved in a paper. However, the writing should be formal, typed, single-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point, with good grammar, spelling, paragraph construction, etc. Each response (for a single event) should be half- to three-quarter one page long, single spaced. Put your name, the title of the event, and the date at the top.
