THE TECHNICAL CREW HEIRARCHY:
Producer- the boss, in charge of everything. Production Manager- producer's right hand, handles all financial matters. Director- reponsible for the overall artistic direction of the production. Directs the actors as well as approves the work of the technical production staff to achieve a unified artistic whole. Stage Manager- in charge of back stage operations and liason between the various elements of the production. Designers- design the portions of the production for which they are responsible and oversee execution of their designs. Technical Director- Supervises and coordinates the various technical areas, produces necessary working drawings to augment the design drawings, make purchases and keep track of expenditures. Head Carpenter- supervises all carpenters, on stage and in shop. Shop foreman- supervises carpenters in the construction shop. Carpenters- term covering construction and running crew who construct and handle scenery and the deck itself. Flys- handle anything flown overhead. Riggers- flymen who install the fly system itself or portions thereof. Grips- production crew that handles scenery onstage, the deck crew. Head Electrician- supervises electricians in preparing, installing and operating anything electrical. Electricians - term covering installation and running crew who handle electrical equip. Sound- electricians who install and operate electrically operated sound effects and reenforcement. Follow spot operators- run followspots during productions Properties Head- supervised props crew. Props- term covering construction and running crew who handle hand props, set dressing, furniture, the floor coverings, and set up the orchestra pit.
