This page will inform you about the research interests and research related activities of Dr. Emmanuel Jean Francois.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

During the next ten years, I plan to continue to articulate a conceptual and theoretical foundation for a scholarship on “Culture, Sustainability, and Transformative Learning in Transnational Nonprofit/Non-Government Organizations(NPOs/NGOs) and international educational development”, in order to suggest innovative approaches that can help transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations further their mission and vision of influencing positive changes in societies and communities across the globe. My research agenda is based on four key themes that will be recurrent in most of my upcoming research projects and activities:

·         Financial Sustainability in Transnational NPOs/NGOs

·         Transcultural Leadership in Transnational NPOs/NGOs

·         Transformative Learning and NPOs/NGOs

·         Transnational economic and social development in the context of social justice and international educational development

Financial Sustainability in Transnational NPOs/NGOs

I plan to conduct studies on models and best practices of planning, implementation, monitoring, challenges, and opportunities for financial sustainability in transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations. These studies will explore predictive relationships between financial sustainability and other variables related to economic and social development, as well as governance and transnational issues. I am currently writing a book on “financial sustainability for nonprofit organizations” that will provide the conceptual framework for further studies on financial sustainability in transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations. I plan to conduct international comparative studies on financial sustainability planning and strategies used by international and transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations.

Transcultural Leadership in Transnational NPOs/NGOs

I plan to conduct quasi-experimental and experimental design studies, large dataset analyses, meta-analysis research, in cross-cultural settings, in order to validate facets of transculturality that are related to best practices of leadership, organizational performance, and effectiveness in  transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations. I also plan to explore social and cultural practices that are either inhibitors or deterrents of effective transcultural leadership. In “Transcultural blended learning and teaching in postsecondary education (2012), I have develop a conceptual framework on “transculturality” that will informed my future research activities on transcultural leadership in transnational nonprofit organizations.  I am currently validating a scale on negotiational leadership, which will inform my future studies in that context. I am also interested in investigating comparative and management leadership of international and transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations.

Transformative Learning and NPOs/NGOs

I intend to conduct both quantitative and qualitative studies to assess the role and impact of transformative learning in strategic planning, program implementation, social and community change, and sustainability of transnational nonprofit/non-government organizations.   I have already conducted studies on transformative learning in relation to culture and context, and in the context of study abroad program. I plan to expand my inquiry into transformative learning in relation to nonprofit/non-government organizations. I plan to explore best practices of transformative learning combined with community-based participatory research (CBPR) that can contribute to foster a learning organization.

Transnational economic and social development in the context of social justice and international educational development

I am interested in examining global economic and social issues that affect people in local communities of both developing and industrialized countries. Furthermore, I want to explore patterns of best practices and strategies to influence social and economic justice debates and policies in the light of transnational frameworks. I plan to conduct studies on models and best practices of planning and implementation of transnational and glocal education programs, their impact on national and international education policies, and their return on investment.
