Rachel Christianson

Senior Rachel Christianson, a fine art—2D studio major, has worked as a photography intern in the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) office at  the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh since fall 2012.

“I decided to get a job at school and without a vehicle an on-campus job was the perfect fit for me,” Christianson said. “Working in IMC has been one of the best decisions of my college career.”

As a photography intern, Christianson has attended and photographed countless events, taken hundreds of headshots, and met students, faculty and staff through her role in IMC.

“We couldn’t provide the same level of photography services without our students,” Doug Sundin, photography and videography services manager in the IMC, said. “Rachel has been a great asset to IMC. We’ve been able to assign her to any photography project and she’s done a phenomenal job.”

Christianson’s internship has also helped her build so many relationships.

“I get recognized by people as I am walking around campus, which is something I never expected. I consider my job more of a behind-the-scenes role,” Christianson said.

For Christianson, her internship helps supplement her education with real-world experience.

“Working in IMC has given me job-specific experience that I could not have learned in the classroom,” Christianson said. “I’ve learned how to react in different situations and how to communicate with all different types of people.”

Through her internship, Christianson said she grew more confident as a photographer and expanded her knowledge of different photography techniques.

“All I had photographed before my internship was sports,” Christianson said. “Now I also photograph events and take headshots, and I have become a more well-rounded photographer.”

“Rachel consistently produces high quality work and is very pleasant to work with,” Sundin said. “Her enthusiasm and creativity is always appreciated.”
