Carly Wahl

Carly Wahl has always considered herself an athletic person.

She has been running independently since middle school, entering herself in several events throughout the state and was also a part of her high school’s swim team. At the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Wahl is a senior majoring in kinesiology with an emphasis on strength and conditioning; she finished the academic portion of her degree with the end of the fall 2014 semester. In the spring, she plans to start the internship phase of the program, which will give her an opportunity to work with several sports teams at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Because of her interest in physical fitness, Wahl said she already knew what she wanted to do when she was applying for college. She was initially considering other schools for her undergraduate degree, but after reading some success stories in UW Oshkosh’s Engage magazine, she decided UW Oshkosh was the place for her.

Wahl spent the last year completing her clinical experience alongside Steve Brown, UW Oshkosh football’s strength and conditioning coordinator.

“Her personality, confidence and knowledge enabled her to win the respect of our athletes,” Brown said. “It’s not an easy task to coach your peers, but Carly handled herself extremely well.”

Wahl is currently applying to various graduate schools where she plans on getting a master’s degree in sports psychology.

She said the honesty and commitment of the faculty make UW Oshkosh a really great place and have helped make the transition to graduate school much easier.

“Dr. (Leigh Ann) Mrotek has definitely been my lifeline in the process, looking over my essays and writing letters of recommendation,” Wahl said. “She’s definitely deserving of the department chair position.”
