Steps to Obtaining an Add On License

The EXCEL Center can help you obtain an additional teaching license if you:

•    Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
•    Hold a valid Wisconsin teaching license
•    Are currently licensed as a teacher and will be teaching some or all of your day in the content/developmental area for which you do not hold the appropriate license
•    Have the endorsement of your school administration to seek an additional license through the EXCEL Center

Step One:  Contact the Program Coordinator at the EXCEL Center to learn about the program requirements, obtain a transcript review and submit an application.

Step Two: Complete all required content and methods coursework in the new content/developmental area.

Step Three: Pass the PRAXIS II exam in the new content/developmental area.

Step Four: Successfully complete on-the-job student teaching in the new content/developmental area.

Step Five: Create a professional portfolio aligned to the Wisconsin Educator Standards documenting your growth in knowledge, skills and dispositions related to teaching in the new content/developmental area.

Step Six: Complete an application to the Wisconsin DPI for licensure in the new content/developmental area.
