Steps to Obtaining an Add-On License

Step One:   Learn about the Add-On Licensure Program
Investigate the EXCEL Center website for program information and fees. Then contact us with questions about program requirements for the additional license you wish to obtain.

Step Two:  Submit your transcripts for review
Complete a transcript review request to see which courses will be required to obtain licensure for the new content/developmental area in which you are interested. Note: Submitting life experience documentation in lieu of course deficiencies is an option; contact the EXCEL Center for more information.

Step Three:  Apply for Admission (Make sure to apply through the EXCEL Center not the UW Oshkosh Admissions Office process!)
After a successful transcript review, submit the Add-On Licensure Program application for acceptance into the program. A final determination of your individualized course plan will be developed for the license you want to obtain.

Step Four:  Complete Required Coursework
Coursework for your new license, as outlined in your individualized plan, may be completed at select two- or four-year institutions. Courses may be taken on campus or via distance learning. All courses not taken at UW Oshkosh must be approved by the EXCEL Center prior to enrollment. Compacted (accelerated) courses, both in credit and time, are available for some licensure areas.

Step Five:  Pass the PRAXIS II Exam
Submit proof of passing PRAXIS II exam scores (for the new content/developmental licensure area) to the EXCEL Center. This documentation must be received by the EXCEL Center prior to your participation in the Add-On Licensure Practicum.

Step Six:  Complete your Add-On License Practicum
Successfully complete an on-the-job practicum in the new content/developmental area. (Visit uwosh.edu/excel for specific information about the practicum.)

Step Seven:  Create a Professional Portfolio
In alignment with Wisconsin Educator Standards (PI 34), create a professional portfolio that documents your growth in knowledge, skills and disposition related to teaching in the new content/developmental area.

Step Eight:  Apply for Licensure
After you have completed all program requirements, complete a Wisconsin DPI application for licensure in the new content/developmental area. Your application must be processed through the EXCEL Center.

All the information you need is here on our website or a phone call away.  Please be sure to view the sub menus under each Step for important links.

Add On License:
Adaptive PE

The EXCEL Center is great!!!!!!!! As a full time teacher who also works most nights as a WIAA Official, finding the time and program to pursue my Adaptive Physical Education Certification was hard to do. Then I found UW-Oshkosh and the EXCEL Center. The staff informed me of what I needed, and did all the leg work and registration for me. They were so helpful when I needed questions answered or if I didn't know what to do next. The course work was of great importance to me and the online classes fit great into my busy schedule. I was able to complete the certification in one school year!!! I have and will continue to HIGHLY recommend UW-Oshkosh and the EXCEL Center to any teachers who are looking to further their education while pursuing further certifications.
