Internships and Volunteering
It is not enough to just take classes. By doing an internship and volunteering, you gain valuable experience, learn important skills, and make important connections. Find an internship and volunteering opportunity that fits your interests and goals.
Internships and volunteering are invaluable. Through them you
learn what you do (and do not) want to do after graduation, gain
experience that prepares you for a career, learn important skills, make you more attractive to
employers and graduate schools, and often they involve providing service
to the community.
There are many different kinds of environmental internships and volunteer possibilities. Learn what kinds are out there and keep abreast of what
openings there are.
NOTE: To get academic credit in ES for an internship, you must make arrangements in advance with an ES faculty member. Students also need to register for ES 300 and get the appropriate signatures--this is particularly important if you are getting credits for the summer. Also, be sure you are aware of our internship policy and our internship contract. If you are interested in an internship, talk to an ES faculty member about this, or contact David Barnhill, Director of ES: barnhill@uwosh.edu.
ALSO: We now offer two internships, ES 300: Internship in Environmental Studies (for students in the Policy and Values Emphasis) and ES 301: Internship in Environmental Science (for students in the Environmental Science Emphasis). Be sure to sign up for the correct course.
