AASHE Student Sustainability Leadership Award

AASHE is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for our 2008 Sustainability Awards. Instructions for applying and descriptions of past award winners are available at www.aashe.org/programs/awards.php. This award honors an undergraduate student from an AASHE member institution who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting campus sustainability. The Student Sustainability Leadership Award includes a $750 prize. In addition, the winner of this year's award will be featured in Sustainability: The Journal of Record.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate student enrolled at an AASHE member institution who has played a leadership role in implementing campus sustainability is eligible for this award.
Application Process
To apply for a 2008 Student Sustainability Leadership Award, please complete an application form (doc) and submit it electronically as a Word document. In addition, please have someone who can comment knowledgeably on your work for campus sustainability submit a letter of recommendation. This person may be a sponsor, mentor, or teacher, but not your parent or legal guardian. The letter should describe the nature of your relationship and why you are a strong candidate for the Student Sustainability Leadership Award. The letter of recommendation should be emailed directly from the recommender. Only one letter of recommendation per applicant will be accepted. Your application and the letter of recommendation must be emailed to awards@aashe.org by August 1, 2008. Applicants will receive notice of the award decisions by mid-August. The award will be presented in November at AASHE 2008 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

American Association of University Women
One of the world's largest sources of funding exclusively for graduate women, the AAUW Educational Foundation supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.
Annie's Environmental Studies Scholarship Program
Annie's Homegrown Environmental Studies Scholarship Program is open to full time students beginning or returning to an accredited 2 or 4 year technical or college program in the U.S. Students must be focusing on classes in the environmental studies field and have at least one more year before completing their degree. We will award 25 lucky (and deserving) students with $1000 each. This money can be used for tuition, books, and other educational expenses.
Bowman Scholarship for Academic Excellence
The Bowman Scholarship was established by the late Max Bowman, professor emeritus in chemistry, in memory of his parents, Earl and Alpha Bowman. It is awarded to science students with a strong academic record. In order to encourage diversity in the sciences, preference is given to women and students of color. Campus Ecology Fellowship

Applications are accepted starting November 1 & are due on December 15.
National Wildlife Federation is seeking undergraduate and graduate students who are dedicated to confronting global warming on campus and beyond. We encourage sustainability task forces, environmental committees, or similar groups to nominate one or more student applicants for the Fellowship. NWF’s Campus Ecology Fellows receive modest stipends, training, networking opportunities, and national recognition. NWF especially is seeking applicants from campuses interested in stepping up leadership to confront global warming. Projects may cover a range of approaches to confronting global warming, including transportation, energy, habitats, and planning. Fellows receive up to $2000 to offset project expenses. Additional funds up to $1000 for meeting expenses may be requested if the applicant’s nominating committee or other affiliated group commits to working with the fellow to convene teams from 3-5 other campuses or other community organizations to share climate action strategies.

Environmental Protection Agency P3 awards
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of the P3 Award Program, is seeking applications proposing to research, develop, and design solutions to real world challenges involving the overall sustainability of human society. The P3 competition highlights the use of scientific principles in creating innovative projects focused on sustainability. The P3 Awards program was developed to foster progress toward sustainability by achieving the mutual goals of economic prosperity, protection of the planet, and improved quality of life for its people-- people, prosperity, and the planet – the three pillars of sustainability. The EPA offers the P3 competition in order to respond to the technical needs of the world while moving towards the goal of sustainability. John E. Kerrigan Scholarship
The John E. Kerrigan Scholarships, established in 2000 at the time of Kerrigan's retirement as ninth Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, honor his efforts to provide students with the resources they need to succeed. Scholarships are awarded annually to sophomores (between 24 and 45 credits at time of application) who show academic achievement and leadership. Applicants must have a cumulative gpa of at least 3.25 and submit a 1-2 page personal statement describing why they are qualified for the award, their activities at UWO (excluding athletics), and how their education will help them meet their goals. Liberal Arts Scholarship
The College of Letters and Science awards a $1,000 scholarship to the winnter of an essay contest. The essay discusses the importance of the Liberal Arts in an undergraduate education. The essay is to be 1,000-1,240 words, type-written, double-spaced. Also required are letters of reference from two instructors. To be eligible, students must be a COLS major with at least 60 credits and a gpa of at least 3.4. Submit applications to Karen Bowen. Deadline October 17, 2005.
Minority Scholarship Program
Brown and Caldwell provides support to increase students' interest in the environmental profession and to support them in defining career goals. The sponsor will provide the selected student with a $3,000 tuition scholarship; paid summer internship at a Brown and Caldwell office; and a dedicated mentor to serve as a career role model.

Oshkosh Garden Club scholarship
Interested in a $1000 scholarship? The Oshkosh Garden Club is offering a $1000 scholarship to a college student studying horticulture, forestry, agriculture or any field relating to preservation, beautification, or sustenance of land. High School Seniors intending to start a program of study in this area may also apply.

Sheboyan County Audubon Society Environmental Studies Scholarship
An $800 scholarship (in 2007). Must be entering junior or senior year in fall 2007 and majoring in Environmental Studies or conservation related fields. Must also be a Wisconsin resident. Application available at Financial Aid Office, Dempsey 104.
Morris K. Udall Undergraduate scholarship
The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. In 2007, the Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships of up to $5,000 and 50 honorable mentions on the basis of merit to sophomore and junior level college students. Scholarships are offered in any of three categories:
* To students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment; or
* To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy; or
* To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native health care.
Note: Students do not apply directly to the program. They must be nominated by the Udall scholarship faculty representative, which is David Barnhill. For details, contact David Barnhill, 424-0644.
E. H. Marth Food and Environmental Sciences Scholarship
Wisconsin Association for Food Protection, Inc., offers a $1500 (in 2007) scholarship. Must display an interest in dairy or food science, environmental health or allied areas of life sciences, and be a resident of Wisconsin. 2007 deadline: July 1. Requests for application should be sent to:
