Document Brief Overview of the Curriculum
Environmental Studies is the study of relationships between human society and its biophysical environments. Its purpose is to understand the social, cultural, and ecological variables that lead to environmental degradation and to inspire critical thought and action in response. It is a course of study for people who care about environmental issues and want to contribute to the resolution of environmental problems as professionals, activists, and citizens
Document The Distinctive Nature of Our Program
There is probably more variety in environmental programs than in any other academic program. The UW Oshkosh program is fully interdisciplinary, based in the liberal arts, and designed to educate students to make the planet a better place. It is a flexible program that requires students to develop their own complementary expertise in another department.
Document Tracks in the ES Program
The following tracks are informal guides for developing that expertise. Students choose their track in consultation with their advisor after considering their own interests and the various careers related to Environmental Studies. The list below is not intended to be exhaustive. The specifics of these tracks can be modified for each student, and if a student’s interests are not served by these existing tracks, the student and the advisor develop one best suited for the student.
Document Checksheet
The checksheet outlines the program's requirements and lists all courses that count for the major and minor.

Document ES Career Preparation Program
The Environmental Studies program is designed not just to teach you but to empower you to enter graduate school, pursue the career you want, and to become a responsible and effective citizen in the earth community. However, especially because it is a broad, interdisciplinary program, the program does not function as a complete vocational training. It is up to you to take the extra steps to prepare yourself to get into the graduate school and career you want. There are seven key aspects of preparing for life after UWO.
