UW Oshkosh Biodigester

Brian BDI Testing

As part of the mission to becoming a more sustainable institution, UW Oshkosh constructed the nation's first commercial-scale dry fermentation anaerobic biodigester.  This digester is the first waste-to-energy facility of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.  Its operation diverts waste--such as food, agricultural, and municipal yard waste-- from the landfill, while providing the campus with 8% of its current energy and heating needs. The Environmental Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) is the primary testing facility for UW Oshkosh's biodigester.  This industrial-academic partnership has allowed the ERIC to develop and expand its unique testing and research capabilities in biosolid reuse and bioenergy production.  In order to continue pushing the limits of biogas utilization, the ERIC at UW Oshkosh continues to conduct thorough research concerning the fermentation process and biogas production.

As a full-service testing facility, the laboratory is a central point of contact for expert consulting and customized research designed to meet public and private client needs.  Every step of the biodigestion process, from the acquisition of feedstocks to the analysis of digestate, can be examined in detail to find the most efficient and economical biogas production possible for your facility.
