This seminar will focus on the theme of trasitioning from youth to adulthood in America. Students will examine through books and film the often difficult passage from the teen years to adulthood. Central texts are The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Driving Sideways by Jess Riley, Ten Things Employers Want You to Learn in College by Bill Coplin, Superstud: Or How I Became a 24 Year-Old Virgin by Paul Feig, and A Writer's Reference by Diana Hacker and Nancy Sommers. Students will also watch the film Stand By Me and other relevant videos.
