While we will look at a wide range of historical events and eras, our main focus will be the 20th century, including the Civil Rights Movement, Black Nationalism, lynching, race riots, and war protests. We will seek to answer the following questions: What is protest music? How is music effective/Is music an effective means of advocacy?
