January 2014, join Friends of Nicaragua—a non-profit organization improving lives through sustainable community development and cultural exchange—in a two-week service-learning experience at the Women in Action Project in Managua, Nicaragua's capital. In addition to assisting Women in Action with education, health and food projects, immerse yourself in Nicaraguan family life and visit scenic and cultural destinations around the country while studying how to bridge cultures through travel writing. 

If you'd like to participate in this course, you must apply through the Office of International Education. Please contact Douglas Haynes in the English Department with questions.

Study Tour 2013

Reading & Writing In Place: Ireland

May 18-June 1, 2013

Three to six credits from English 225, 226, 350/550 and 357/557 with Professors Marguerite Helmers and Paul Klemp.

Five nights in Dublin and eight nights in Galway, with side trips to Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands, and other beautiful places.  Tour museums, see the Book of Kells, and visit famous cathedrals, parks, and ancient Celtic burial sites.

Pre-departure class sessions on campus May 13-16, 9 am - 12pm. Estimated cost: $2350.00 plus airfare.  Final costs depend on exchange rates, accommodations, and flight arrangements.

You may alternatively register for this course as English 405 (Creative Writing) or English 302 (Advanced Composition for the Humanities).
