Jennifer A. Horowitz, author of What Can You Do with a Major in English?, explains that "internships are a key way to gain experience and information. Participating in an internship provides you with real-world experience, making you more attractive to graduate schools or employers" (38). Participating in a college internship can help you decide both what jobs you do and do not want to do once you graduate. Horowitz continues, "It's much better to find out this information now rather than discover you're not suited for it after you graduate and pursue all the accreditation, advanced schooling, or job searching necessary to get you into a specific career" (38).
