188-009 America's Great Migration

188-009 America's Great Migration
Instructor: Joanna Morey
Description:
Refuge, Renewal, Resistance: America's Great Migration

Between 1915 and 1970, America's Great Migration encompassed the lives of roughly six million African Americans as they moved out of the South and into industrial cities, such as New York, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Los Angeles. This course examines how a variety of writers have explored the complexities of leaving the segregation and violence of the South for new opportunities and challenges in the North.
