This list of over 100 job opportunities for English majors and minors, separated by category, is adapted from Shelley O’Hara’s What Can You Do with a Major in English? and Scott A. Meyer’s 100 Jobs in Words. Each job has a link to its individual job category in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition or Career Guide to Industries, 2010-11 Edition, which provide in-depth information about each job, as well as for related jobs in the field.
Most of the jobs could be found from large-scale corporations to small non-profit organizations. Many of the jobs also could offer more flexible freelance work. These differences partly will determine salary, opportunities for advancement, geographic location, etc.
